Yesterday we left Kochi for our 5 hour drive to Thekkady. Thankfully as it is Easter and the beginning of school holidays there was not a lot of traffic on the road, nevertheless the cars, buses, trucks and motorbikes overtaking each other on the bends of the narrow road took your breath away. Not to mention the overturned semi trailer. Thanks to Sanjan our very careful driver we safely arrived at our hotel in Thekkady. Later in the afternoon we went to visit a spice plantation, followed by a relaxing aromatherapy massage.

This morning it was an early start to meet our guide at 6:30, we hopped on a bus with the local tourists to visit Periyar Tiger Reserve and a boat trip on the man made lake where we spotted Bison, deer and elephants. We returned to our hotel for breakfast and a refreshing swim in the hotel pool before going on a 3 hour jungle walk, and in the evening we enjoyed a martial arts performance followed by a delicious Indian buffet meal.
