After many hours of driving over 5000 plus passes we finally reached our destination and highlight of our trip to the North Face of Everest Base Camp. We were blessed with perfect weather when we arrived at our accommodation at the highest Monastery and guesthouse in the world -Rongphu where we had stunning views of the north face of Mt Everest 8848 mtrs . We hiked the 7 klms to BC it was so different to my previous visits to BC on the Nepal side. Everest was covered in snow unlike the Nepal side we stayed for the allowed 30 minutes by the Chinese Government then returned to our very bascic accommodation. The followng day we drove to the border of Zhangmu crossing spectacular passes of Lalung La 5082 and Nyalamu 3800 where we enjoyed more fabulous views of the Himalayas. The drive downhill to Zhangmu and the Friendship Bridge was amazing and the contrast from barren landscape to lush green valleys took us by surprise. Our guide Basang assisted us trhough the formalities of the Chinese customs. we found the authorieties very friendly very different to my previous visits. We met our vehicle on the Nepal side of the border and transferred the 3 hours to Kathmandu and our hotel the end to an incredible adventure throught Tibet. Two nights rest and then we are heading to the village of Majuwa to do some volunteer work on the school at Saraswasi. Will keep you updated on our progress.
