We departed our hotel at 830 am by vehicle to our starting point of our trek. On arrival we were presented with a small calico bag which contained out morning tea. The trek took us through farms of maize, wheat, potatoes and barley our guide Elias explained to us the daily life of these people. Our hike took us around 3 hours on a flat Andean trail, but the last 1 hour was a steep incline. Our trustworthy guide Elias realised the distress on some of our faces and decided to organise Andean Taxis (donkeys) to transport us the extra 2 klm to the village. This decision was received heartily by everyone.
On arrival at the village we were receieve by a welcoming committee who serended us all the way to our homestay. Lunch was served as a traditional Andean feast, then a siesta was required. gbefore we participated in basic activities such as harvesting crops, weaving and dying of the yarn.
After a wonderful Andean breakfast we then hiked 1 hour to Moray an archeological site, then to Maras salt mines, before catching our train the Augas Calientas and the highlight of our trip a visit to Machu Picchu.
