On arrival at Ollyantambo our driver David was their to meet us and we then drove to our hotel in the Sacred Valley to collect our main luggage. A quick stop at the Pisac markets to enjoy an empanada and buy a few things that the ladies had their eye on during our vist to Pisac 3 days before. We arrived into Cuzco around 3.30pm and our hotel. A few of us ventured out again to the main square where there was a hive of activity. Locals were celebrating Corpus Christi enjoying time with family and friends. There were food stalls everywhere ladden with kababs of corn, chicken potato and of couse the local drink chicha. In the evening we went to a stage performance of Andean dancers and singers – a very colourful performance. Dinner was at a fabulous restaurant where we were given a demonstation on how to make Pisco Sour a drink made of alcohol (pisco) syrup, lime and eggwhite, we all had a turn at making our own drink which was a fun experience. Tomorrow we will celebrate the most important festival of the Andean culture – Inti Rami Festival. Keep checking the blog!!
MACHU PICCHU TO CUZCO
Yesterday we arrived to Cuzco from Aguas Calientes. We caught the Peru Rail from Aguas Calientes which is a small vibrant town situated at the base of Machu Picchu. The trip to Ollyantambo takes approximately 1-1/2 hours on board we were given a typical Peruvian lunch and entertained by the staff of Peru Rail who performed a fashion parade of beautiful alpaca garments. It was such a fun trip with lots of singing and dancing in the isle. Peru Rail definately have their act together with regards to excellent service.
